In The Studio: It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
The studio is warm and cozy when one of our current brides Sydney walks into the Ghinda studio with her good friend and I. Jen is there along with assistant designer Kathryn and the newest addition to the Ghinda team, Kelley. The studio has been decorated since I was last here, glass jars full of twinkling lights and ornaments in shades of gold, silver, brown, cream and blue fill the studio with holiday cheer. Sheets of tulle wrap and curve around the windowsill and a Christmas tree sits comfortably in the corner by the window.
It always seems to pop with inspiration here, the alley outside our window is filled with pops of graffiti, exposed brick and industrial views. Inside it feels fresh and comfortable with white and blue walls and lots of glittering lights that fill the ceiling. The contrast is inviting.
As we prepare for the holidays we reflect on the year we've had and the brides we've designed for, as well as the brides to come and the year ahead. We (sadly!) say farewell to our bride Sydney today on her last appointment before she picks up her gown for her special day, and we say hello (happily!) to our newest team member Kelley. We are so excited to see what creativity, insight, and positive change she will bring to Ghinda in the coming year. We've seen a lot of growth over the past year. More and more brides are coming in and with them come new design challenges that force us to change and learn and think strategically about how we can deliver the best quality to each bride. I myself find that I have grown in many ways since my first day at Ghinda, and I can't wait to see what will come next.
We all trickle out of the studio, first Sydney, then Kelley, then Kathryn until it is just Jen and I. Jen sits at the sewing machine sewing a few hand made stockings for her new family, and we talk about goals for the new year and what is to come. She kindly drives me home and we both regretfully say goodbye, knowing we won't see each other until the new year. These are the moments I love best in the studio, when all of the busy laughter and human noise turn into thoughtful silence, and you can almost feel the room vibrate with the energy of everyone in it. As our team and Ghinda grow I feel myself grow with it and I wan't wait to see what the new year will bring with it.
From our Ghinda family to yours, happy holidays, and may your new year be filled with all of the laughter, joy and inspiration we strive to find and deliver all year round.
